MARY MOTHER OF GOD

O Virgin, your glory transcends all created things.
what, in effect, compares to your nobility,
O Mother of God the WORD?
To what in all creation will I compare you?
Angels of God and archangels are sablime,
but how much you transcends them, O Mary!
Angels and Archangels in trembling serve Him
who lives within your womb,
and venture not to speak;
you on the contrary, speak freely with him!

The Catholic Church celebrates today the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary on its traditional fixed date of September 8, nine months after the December 8 celebration of her Immaculate Conception as the child of Saints Joachim and Anne. The circumstances of the Virgin Mary's infancy and early life are not directly recorded in the Bible, but other documents and traditions describing the circumstances of her birth are cited by some of the earliest Christian writers from the first centuries of the Church. These accounts, although not considered authoritative in the same manner as the Bible, outline some of the Church's traditional beliefs about the birth of Mary. June 17, 2015 By  Emily Cavins Not having been raised Catholic, I can relate to the question that is often asked, “Why do Catholics pray to Mary?” A good way to respond to someone asking that question is to first explain the Catholic understanding of the Communion of Saints. People questioning the idea of praying through a saint perceive that those who are dead in Christ are disconnected from those on earth, so to pray through someone who is dead seems like a useless proposition. Non-Catholics are quick to pray for one another, but to pray for the dead or ask the intercession of those who are dead is not only foreign, it’s a bit suspect. So in order to explain why we pray through Mary and the saints, they need to understand that there is a connection between the Body of Christ that is already in heaven and those who are still on earth.
